Wow our little girl is growing up

We had Plunket on Monday and Caitlyn was 8 weeks 4 days, she is 9 weeks tomorrow. She now weighs 10lb 9oz, so a full 3lb more than her birth weight. Nothing wrong with her growth that is for sure.

I am not really sure where the time has gone, I think that in the first few weeks you just kind of muddle through doing whatever your baby requires of you and whatever it takes to get them settled.

Now we are starting to get a handle on things and getting a routine in place for Caitlyn and it is meaning that we are a little less stressed and starting to get our nights back.

We have slowly taught Caitlyn day from night and have been getting her down at night between 7 and 7.30pm. Generally we have to go in once or twice to settle her but then she settles on her own. It’s good to have both girls down around 7pm and then once Caitlyn is settled we have the nights to ourselves again, although I am trying to get to bed around 9 – 9.30pm so the nights still disappear very quickly. I am also so much more tired than I ever was with Brianna, so by the time the girls are in bed, I find I have very little energy to do anything.

The good thing is that with second time around, you know that the sleep deprivation etc is only short lived and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Although we are getting Caitlyn down early, it doesn’t mean she is sleeping through the night or anything, far from it. Actually last night was one of the worst nights where she woke every 2 hours wanting to be fed. It’s no wonder that I feel completely shattered some mornings.

Scott is now into his second week back at work and starting to forget that he was ever on holiday. He enjoyed his time off and managed to balance his time between family stuff and getting things done around the house. It was great having him home and it meant that I also felt like I had a break, which as a stay at home Mum can be a hard thing to get. Its often the little things, like popping out when both girls are asleep, when you are usually confined to the house.

We have been a bit spoilt for visitors lately, after having Uncle Jas staying in the holidays, we just had Granny down for a couple of days and then Grandad arrived down this afternoon to stay for a few days. So it has been lovely having my family around.

Brianna is good and continuing to be the doting big sister and showering Caitlyn with love and kisses, sometimes a bit too enthusiastically and we have to keep an eye on her. I am sure that Caitlyn is looking up at me sometimes and saying ‘Mum please save me from Brianna’. Though I am sure that she will grow up tough and will get her own back before we know it.

Brianna's first haircut (see the photo below for how momentous it really was!)

Can almost hardly be classed as a haircut!

Enjoying feeding herself yoghurt at the Teddy Bears Picnic (a fun event organised by Cadbury's with live entertainment and free chocolate)  We had fantastic weather for the 2 hours it was on and it started to pour just as we were in our cars and leaving - awesome timing.
