The first week at home was good but was interrupted mid week with an unexpected trip to hospital - and you guessed it ... in an ambulance! It seems to be an annual thing for our household. Marthah had been having bottom and abdominal pain from Wednesday, but by Thursday night / Friday morning the pain had gotten considerably worse. At 2am I phoned the Healthline to ask their advice and they recommended we got to the hospital within four hours just in case it was something serious. But as we we're getting dressed, the pain doubled again and Marthah felt she couldn't sit or walk so sitting in the car was out. Hence the ambulance.
12 hours in the emergency department and numerous theories, tests, pokes and prods from Doctors, they finally conceded that they had no idea what was causing the pain. During the day the pains intensified to what Marthah could only describe as similar to labour contraction pains and since she had only just had those the week before, the Doctors genuinely realised that she was in significant pain.
Five days later the pains are still there, but not as frequent - generally 2-3 times a day Marthah gets intense pains. We're hoping that it will simply be her body settling down after the birth but we really don't know.
On top of that Marthah slipped on a wet path and hurt her back so is receiving physio for that too.
I'm working part time until Christmas to help out more during the day and relieve Marthah to rest a bit more. And then I have four weeks off, returning to work on 24th January so it will be great to have the time off with my three girls. Hopefully the weather is kind to us ....
Caitlyn is a little gem, she's sleeping 4-5 hours between feeds and is a far quieter baby than Brianna ever was and we had plenty of people telling us how lucky we were with Bree so we're really appreciating how good Caitlyn is. Apart from a few lengthy cries early on, she's settled in very well and even when she wakes for a feed there's just a short 'yelp' to let us know she's awake.
We had originally planned for the two girls to be in the same room from day one, but half a day in we realised it was too soon while Caitlyn was still settling in. So to avoid Brianna being too disturbed, we moved Caitlyn in to our room - we'll she's actually in the wardrobe! Sounds more horrendous than it actually is - we have a large walk in wardrobe with a window so there's plenty of room and it means we can partly close the door at night so we don't hear the little moans and groans that can disturb Marthah a bit.
Brianna has been a very good big sister. Marthah and I are very proud of her and although we have been worried in ourselves about not spending as much time with Brianna as we used to, she seems to have adapted very well and is keeping herself entertained very well while Marthah is feeding or doing other things with Caitlyn.

Well I know you and I have spoken Marthah bout the pain you experienced the other day - but wanted to share with everyone that I too experienced the exact same pains after I had my daughter (11 weeks before Caitlyn was born). And yes, they felt like contractions!!! When I spoke to my midwife (once the pain subsided a little so I could actually physically talk again) she said she'd had two ladies previously describe the same thing - and her understanding was that the uterus does a violent final attempt to shrink back down to pre-pregnancy state.
So sympathy to you Marthah.
PS you're looking fantastic!!
